The next several years will be both challenging and rewarding for the transportation industry.

It is projected that there will be a massive retirement of skilled workers in transportation industries within the next decade – 30 to 70 per cent of skilled workers in the field of aviation alone. International Shipping Federation (ISF) and Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO) projection forecast a worldwide shortage of 40,000 licensed and certified maritime officers within the next five years. In the Automotive/Motive Power industry, similar human resource issues will be compounded by the need to keep pace with the rapid technological changes required under the Kyoto Accord to reduce global vehicular emissions.

For those entering or moving up in the transportation industry, these challenges provide unprecedented opportunity.

Our goal at BCIT is to support the British Columbia and Canadian economy by enhancing the career development of current and future workers in:

Aerospace

Marine

Motive Power
